Leopard Creek

- Mpumalanga, South Africa

This is your chance to play golf among wildlife on the finest course in South Africa - a Top 10 course.

Leopard Creek is a private, exclusive course set in the 'bushveld' adjoining the southern border of the Kruger National Park. It is a spectacular Gary Player design with holes bordering the Crocodile River. Wild animals such as giraffe, impala and antelope are sighted more regularly on your round than other golfers. The signature hole is the par five 13th which has a stream running down the left hand side of the fairway. The striking beauty of this hole is the position of the green overlooking the Crocodile River where plenty of animals can be seen at the water’s edge whilst you are putting. The toughest hole on the course is the par four 8th which rightly enjoys its reputation as stroke index 1. This hole measures almost 470 yards and is protected by a green that slopes right to left where anything slightly short or left is in a great deal of trouble. Here you need your best drive followed by an accurate rescue club for your second that lands on the right side of the green.

Gary Player is especially proud of the par five 18th with its island green and the par four 9th with its peninsula green jutting out into the same body of water. As these two holes are right in front of the clubhouse further pressure is often added to the golfer when a member watching from the bar is ready to ring the bell for any unfortunate shot that finds water.

Golfing hazards take on a new dimension at Leopard Creek for much of the water is home to the magnificent creatures for which the river is named - crocodiles. Extensive use has been made of water features and sightings of crocodile, hippo, antelope, buffalo, baboon, and monkey are commonplace either on the course itself or next to streams running alongside several holes. For example the 16th par three requires you to carry your ball the best part of 200 yards across a lake to a small well protected green.
