Day 1 - Rio de Janeiro to Manaus

Arrive in Rio from the UK and stay 1 night in this vibrant city. The next day fly to Manaus.It is the ideal point of departure for visiting the rest of the Amazon region. See the Meeting of the Waters, where the black waters of the Negro River meet the light waters of the Solimoes River, flows stubbornly side by side without mixing for several miles. You can also explore the river bank and "igarapes", swim and canoe in placid lakes or simply walk in the lush forest. Return and overnight at the Hotel Tropical Manaus.

Day 2 - Rio to Manaus and Amazon River Cruise

This morning, you embark on a half day city tour of Manaus. Visit a typical neighbourhood with a stop at the Rio Negro Palace, where the local Mayor lives, visit to the Indian Museum and the Teatro Amazonas. At 2h30 in the afternoon, board the Amazon Clipper Premium boat, for a 3 nights’ cruise on the Amazon. It slowly navigates the Ariau river, a tributary of Rio Negro. There is time for some canoeing shortly before sunset, returning after dark, spotting nocturnal animals. Dinner is served on the deck under the starry skies. Overnight on the Amazon Clipper.

Day 3 - Amazon

An amazing day awaits as the sun slowly rises above the forest. Walk in the forest with a specialist guide as he explains the secrets of nature. Visit a "Caboclo" family to see the local way of life… like the preparation of manioc flour (the staple food of the Amazon people), as well as seeing the children at school. Lunch on board as the Clipper slowly meanders through the Anavilhanas Archipelago. Next a visit to the small, remote town of Novo Airão. See local boat-building, sawmills and market where locals trade in fish and other natural resources. Dinner is served on the boat. As night falls it is possible to see caymans, frogs, sloth, snakes and nocturnal species, depending on the season. Overnight on the Amazon Clipper.

Day 4 - Amazon

Today the vessel continues and navigates to Praia Grande with its white-sandy beach. Swimming in the fresh water is possible if conditions permits. Afterwards onwards to Lake Acajatuba to see the typical flora of the area (rubber trees, Brazil nuts, palm trees). It cannot get more exciting than to try your hand at piranha fishing here! Lunch on board may even include this ferocious fish, if you’re so lucky to catch one. A number of activities is possible this afternoon, or perhaps you fancy a relaxing afternoon with a book on the deck. Overnight on the Amazon Clipper.

Day 5 - Manaus to Cuiaba, The Pantanal

This morning you will get to see Lake Januari. Hop on a Canoe at sunrise for some bird watching before returning to the clipper for a hearty breakfast. Today the boat returns to Manaus at 11:30am. You will be met and transferred to airport for your 4-hour flight to Cuiabá for the Pantanal. Arrival this afternoon and you will be met and transferred to hotel in Cuiaba. Overnight at Deville Cuiabá Hotel.

Day 6 and 7 - The Pantanal

Along with the Amazon basin, the Pantanal is one of the last virgin wetland areas left on earth. It is a vast lowland plain, entirely overgrown by vegetation dotted by thousands of rainbow coloured flowers which bloom during the rainy season (Dec to March). It contains countless rivers and crystal clear lakes. Along their shores are rare species of animals such as jaguars, peccaries, bob-cats, wild boars and plentiful birdlife, who live in total and undisturbed freedom protected by the National Parks. After breakfast at the hotel, there is a 2-and-a-half-hour road transfer South, passing through the small village of Mimoso. On the way you will see many kinds of bird and small mammals. After check-in at the Pousada Rio Mutum Hotel, have a spot of lunch. Explore the grounds or take a dip in the pool to cool off from the Amazonian heat. In the evening a delicious piranha soup is served as a first course, are you brave enough! After dinner, there will be a short introduction on the activities available during your stay here.

Embark on one of the experiences of your life - horseback trail riding in the forest, up to the edge of the Siá Mariana Bay. Throughout the year a big variety of birds, animals and reptiles can be spotted up-close (not too close!) on horseback. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, take a boat ride which is a great option for budding photographers with the stunning Mutum River as a backdrop. In its crystal clear waters, it is possible to see giant otters, stingrays and shoals of small fish. Return to the lodge for dinner, then perhaps nocturnal animal spotting by jeep around the lodge.

Day 9 - Pantanal to Iguassu Falls

If you are up for it, early morning around 4:30am is your last chance for canoeing on the river to marvel at the sunrise and the beauty of nature at the break of dawn. Return to the lodge shortly thereafter for breakfast and check-out. Transfer to the Cuiabá airport for your 5-hour flight to Iguassu. The Iguaçu's falls is one of the planet’s natural wonders. Formed on the Iguaçu river, water falls down an average of 60 meters up to 2700 meters. The number of individual falls varies between 150 to 275, depending on the outflow. The major part of the falls is located in Argentina, but all its beauty can be admired from Brazilian side. Surrounded by trails in subtropical forest of the Parque Nacional do Iguaçu, this takes you onto wooden walkways elevated high with lookouts. Dinner at your hotel - Hotel Das Cataratas.

Day 9 - Iguassu Falls

Morning tour of the Brazilian side of the Falls - Tour stars walking from the Hotel. Located Inside the Brazilian side of National Iguassu Park, a walk is undertaken inside the sub-tropical forest during 45 minutes. After that we will take to enjoy the Macuco Safari boat tour - Towed by jeep, visitors are driven through the forest watching birds wild animals and exotic vegetation. At the end of 2 miles ride, a boat takes visitors upstream the nearest possible under the thundering water wall. Overnight at Belmond Hotel das Cataratas.

Day 10 - Iguassu Falls to Rio

Morning tour of the Argentina side of the falls -Located inside Argentina's side of National Park. Visitors cross the Argentinean border and end up into the Parque National del Iguassu, 40 km away from the Brazilian border. A walking tour on the falls. Pm transfer to airport for your 1 hour 50-minute flight to Rio to connect for your international flight back home.
