Live like a Nomad

Northern Kenya

Ol Malo Nomad is one of those experiences that comes around once in a lifetime. It is for the truly adventurous and for those who yearn for a safari in its rawest form, devoid of any superfluities.

A lightweight camp and equipment is carried by camels and set up by the team, whilst you make your way through the bush on foot or on horseback. Rising with the sun you’ll start each day early with a light snack and then a longer stop for brunch before setting off again. Once you reach camp there is time to relax and take in the sights and sounds and enjoying a sundowner. Each day vary from between 4 to 7 hours of walking or riding.

  • Best for small groups and families
  • From 4 to 8 people
  • Can be tailormade to suit any request
  • Cost £495 per person per day
  • Option to fly-in on helicopter

The tents are airy and have comfortable camp beds and bedrolls to ensure a good nights’ sleep. Specially designed for star gazing, the flysheet rolls back so that you can lie back and enjoy the vast African night sky after a hot bucket-shower. You are encouraged to get involved, cooking dinner with the hosts over an open flame. Many stories fly around at dinner time around the fire, as you chat about the days’ highlights with your family long into the night under the sparkling stars.

End your journey as a nomad at the Ol Malo lodge where you can lie back and appreciate the luxury of a swimming pool, a cool drink and of course, Francombe family hosting. They are born and bred Kenyans with endless knowledge of the land both on the ground, in the air and on the back of a horse.

Kenya’s northern rangelands have breath-taking views, harsh rocky outcrops and cool acacia lined river beds, home to the Samburu people. The Samburu are a colourful and nomadic tribe who dart about the north following fresh pasture and seasonal water, much like the wildlife. Ol Malo works alongside the Samburu Trust; this relationship has gained the trust of the people and gives them a deeper understanding of their traditions in this delicate ecosystem.
