A delightful Cape Town course - the perfect start to any golfing holiday in South Africa.
Clovelly is situated between the villages of Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay in the majestic Silvermine Valley. Designed originally by Dr Charles Murray, this is a well laid out and picturesque golf course. It is a favourite among overseas visitors not only for its lush appearance but also for its excellent clubhouse facilities. Although shorter than some, Clovelly presents an absorbing challenge with many excellent dog-leg holes and well protected par three’s. New water features tighten up the course on several holes particularly the very good par four 4th, as do the prevailing winds from the Atlantic Ocean. In amongst the greens, fairways, bunkers and water hazards are biomes brimming with life especially of the feathered variety - guinea fowl, pheasant and the odd peacock.
Two holes worthy of mention are the 8th a longish par three at 210 yards where the green nestles below a bank to the right. The green is long, narrow and two tiered-important to note the pin placement when making your club selection. The 9th is a par five stroke index 1 warning you that this is a very punishing hole. It is a long hole sloping and curving left requiring you to aim to the right of the fairway as it narrows before your second uphill to an elevated green.
If you have time after golf take a drive to Kalk Bay and its quaint fishing harbour or to Fish Hoek and its sandy beaches with generally calm waters.
